Initial Review By Mail

You can request an Initial Review by writing to the following address:

You may wish to select this option if you have supporting documentation you would like to present, such as proof of current registration, photographs, or change of vehicle ownership information.

Write a letter to the above address explaining why you believe that the citation was issued in error. Include any documentation which may support your claim. Once your letter is received, an Initial Review will be conducted by a Customer Service Representative (CSR), who will review your letter and, based on current City of Los Angeles parking regulations, make one of the following determinations:

  1. The citation is valid and must be paid
  2. The citation is not valid and will be cancelled
  3. The citation requires further investigation

If your citation is found to be "Valid" you will be sent written notification that the citation must be paid. Please ensure that the Parking Violations Bureau has your correct mailing address.

If your citation is found to be "Not Valid" you will be sent written notification that the citation has been dismissed. Your citation will be cancelled and you do not need to take any further action. If you have already paid the fine, then you must request a refund. Send a letter requesting a refund to the above address with the citation number of the citation which was dismissed.

If your citation requires further investigation then the CSR will temporarily suspend your citation while the investigation is conducted. You will be sent written notification that the citation is being investigated. You may also be instructed to send additional information. You will not need to pay the fine, until the investigation is completed. Once the investigation is completed, you will be notified of the results by mail.

Once the Initial Review has been completed, the results of the Review will be recorded in the Parking Violations Bureau computer. You cannot request a second Review of the same citation.
